Several years ago, I visited a charming pizzeria in Jonchères, France, run by a gentleman named Frank. His quaint restaurant was situated just beside an adorable church. My husband and I asked about the church. Frank immediately asked if we would like to see it. We all walked over to the church and took a peek inside. For me, it was love at first sight.
The church itself was in good shape but the inside of the church looked like it hadn't been used in a very long time. Chairs were askew, cobwebs were many and it just looked tired. Even still, I could feel the soul of this place and all I could think about is how wonderful it would be to sing in this lovely, old, charming church.
Six years later, I am happy to tell you that my dream of singing in this lovely, old, charming church is coming true this weekend, December 7th. I am truly delighted! And best of all, I will be able to film this concert and share it with my social media family on YouTube and Facebook, December 22nd (..Winter Solstice).
The church has received some much needed TLC since my first visit. The Rachel Ashwell/Shabby Chic charm that I saw beyond the dust and clutter six years ago, now shines through. There still isn't any heat to speak of in the church which is why you'll see me quite bundled up for the performance. The locals have been instructed to wear their warm coats and bring blankets.
The way I see it, there is enough warmth of heart at this time of year to keep us all cozy. Plus, we'll be serving warm, mulled wine and homemade ginger biscuits after the performance.
This is a humble concert, in a lovely, old, charming church, surrounded by the beauty of the French countryside. Truly my winter's dream come true.
